What is Phonegap ?

PhoneGap is a mobile development framework produced by Nitobi, purchased by Adobe Systems in 2011. It enables software programmers to build applications for mobile devices using JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.


The resulting applications are hybrid, meaning that they are neither truly Mobile native application native (because all layout rendering is done via web views instead of the platform's native UI framework) nor purely web-based .

PhoneGap currently supports development for the operating systems Apple iOS, BlackBerry, Google Android  LGwebOS, Microsoft Windows Phone (7 and 8), Nokia Symbian OS, Tizen (SDK 2.x), Bada, Firefox OS and Ubuntu Touch.
PhoneGap comes complete with plugins to support device capabilities such as the following:
  1.   accelerometer,
  2. camera,
  3. contacts,
  4. file system,
  5. media playback and recording,
  6. network availability.
PhoneGap may be extended with plugins that enable the developer to access more device features, including these:
  1. ·         barcode scanning,
  2. ·         Bluetooth,
  3. ·         push notifications,
  4. ·         text to speech,
  5. ·         calendars,
  6. ·         Facebook Connect.
